Training includes a live webinar with you and your students.

Amber Wolfe, Drama Teacher, Cleveland Central High, Cleveland MS, talks about her experience on how Poetry for Life builds empathy in students.

Teacher Training
The teacher training includes basic biology of Alzheimer’s disease and the behavior of people living with dementia. We discuss building a poetry program for elders. We choose which poems to include, decide the order of the poems, who will recite them and rehearse the poems.

Students learn about the Alzheimer’s Poetry Project methods and techniques to perform and create poetry with people living with memory loss. We learn about the highly effective technique of engaging the elders in the performance of poetry by using “call and response,” where the poem leader recites a line of poetry and has the elder group echo the line.

This training is designed to work with the lessons your students are learning through the Poetry Out Loud curriculum.

We customize the training to work for you and your students with one-on-one training for the teacher, materials and sample programs. Training includes a live webinar with you and your students.
